3 Tips to Keep Waterproof Jewelry Looking NEW
Hi,
So you know that Oh, So Fitting's waterproof pieces are designed to be worn in the pool, ocean, hot-tub, etc. They will stand up to the GA heat and keep on going!
However, here are a couple tips to keep your pieces in tip top shape:

1. This is a BIG one, even though I do it all the time. Letting your jewelry jiggle around in your purse for weeks is a recipe for having it break. Plus it's likely to get snagged on something. If you have to do it, then place it in a small bag (like the one it came in) to protect it.

2. Did you know that little white bag that came with your purchase can also be used to polish your pieces? If you can't find it then used an old tee shirt. If it's feeling especially dirty, soak your jewelry in warm water and mild dish soap.

3. Look at the jump rings holding your necklace or earrings together. Do any look like they are loose or coming open? If so send me an email or stop by any event and I'll tighten them.

How to accessorize when it's HOT & HUMID
Hi There,
If you are anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere then you know it's starting to heat up. I went outside to paint for an hour this morning and came back in dripping. How did that happen??
So, if you are going anywhere other than your back yard, then you want to look polished. But you don't want to worry that metal's natural enemies (heat and water) are going to destroy your jewelry. What should you do? Read on!
1. You don't want to have to worry about the heat and humidity harming your jewelry. What if you go for a dip in the ocean? You need stainless steel jewelry that can stand up to that!

2. When it's hot and sticky, the last thing you want to feel is your jewelry. Forget chunky jewelry and go for lightweight statement pieces! All Oh, So Fitting pieces are designed for you to forget that you're wearing them.

3. Pastels? Jewel tones? Neutrals? All of the above? (we've got them all!)

4. Do you like a tiny drop? Hoops? Pick ones that make you happy when you wear them!

How to Clean and Maintain your Jewelry

The next step in getting your jewelry organized is getting it clean and maintaining it. Taking care of your pieces will greatly increase the longevity of your pieces. See our best tips below:
Polishing your jewelry with a jewelry cloth can bring back the shine! (Use this one for solid brass only.)
Necklaces
When wearing long necklaces, be careful of seat belts and carrying children. These activities can put a lot of strain on the pendant or chain.
Bracelets
Roll bracelets over your hand. (See this demo). It's easy and will GREATLY increase the life of your stretch bracelets!
Brass Pieces
Make sure your piece is raw brass, because this tip will damage any finish or other metals. Polish brass using Brasso. If you have more sensitive skin, try
A Few Maintenance Tips:
-
Keeping your jewelry dry and clean is the key by avoiding wearing your jewelry while swimming, showering, and working out. Always put your jewelry on last after you have applied your body lotion, make-up and perfumes. They can contain some chemicals that can potentially damage your jewelry.
-
Remove your jewelry before going to bed. When we sleep we sweat and our skin releases oils which can affect the finish of your jewelry, not to mention that you can snag your sheets or scratch your skin while you sleep.
-
Avoid coating your jewelry with store bought products. All of our pieces are made to be hypoallergenic and come with a protective coating. Adding nail polish or a coating you may find at a big box store will negate that and in addition can over time breakdown your jewelry more quickly.

How to organize your jewelry - Part 1: Declutter
How to Declutter Your Jewelry
It’s the beginning of the year and it is time to get things in order over here at the “Oh So Fitting” Studio. The Studio is a mess!

We are getting reorganized, designing our new line, and getting ready for show season(tbd). This is the first in a 3-part blog series on how to Organize your jewelry.
The first step is to declutter! Which in my opinion is the toughest job because we have to part with our stuff.
Let's sort things first. Pull out all of your jewelry and go through everything to decide which pile they go in: keep, repair, and get rid of.
3 Things to Keep:
- Any sentimental pieces
- Essential pieces you always reach for
- Your fine jewelry pieces that you may not wear often but you always reach for during a special occasion
4 Things to Repair:
- Pieces that no longer fit, anything with a chain can be made larger by adding another loop in the chair or even a handy necklace/bracelet extender. Rings can be enlarged.
- Earrings with missing post holders(you can buy extra on amazon)
- If you have a pendant but the chain is missing you can always buy another chain for the piece.
- Earring with a missing post or hook, you can buy these items on amazon or your local craft store and repair them yourself easily.
5 things to get rid of:
- Anything you don’t like
- Anything you feel like you don't already have an outfit to go with.
- Pieces that don't make you feel good
- Pieces that you are allergic to
- Pieces that are irreparable, many pieces are easily repairable but if the metal of a piece has torn and it is fashion jewelry it is likely irreparable. If you are unsure about one of my pieces you are welcome to contact me for a consultation.
What should I do with my “get rid of” pile?
If the pieces are still in good shape you can:
- Donate them to a women’s professional clothing closet which donates professional clothing to women who are working to get back on their feet.
- If your pieces are from a popular brand you can sell them on Poshmark or Ebay
- And of course you can donate them to a thrift store.
If the pieces are broken or in bad shape
- Donate them to a school’s art department or a youth development Non-profit. Many of these programs are in need of supplies and materials. They are usually more than happy to take them for you.
- Keep them for kids you know! My nieces love playing with my leftover shiny things. They love to come to the studio and go through the extra bits and bobs I have in my drawers and play dress-up.
Now that you have your pile go ahead and get rid of the “get rid of Pile”

2021 Gift Guide

Isn't gift shopping fun? Or stressful in some cases? The Holiday season is fast approaching and we have ideas for all of the people in your life based on their style.
Let's start with the "Creative" in your life. They may admire the style of Iris Apfel, Carrie from Sex and the City, or Tracee Ellis Ross. They probably work in a creative field such as Graphic Designer, Interior Decorator, or Art gallery Curator. For them we would recommend the Le Motif Collection. These pieces are for the person in your life who likes bold patterns in shapes but doesn't want to be weighed down by any piece. You can pair the pieces together as a set or they can be separated to add a statement to an outfit.
For the "Classic" in your life, she will love the refined elegance of the L'Or Collection. They may admire the style of Carolina Herrera, Kerry Washington, and Jackie Kennedy. She may be a Teacher, work in Corporate America or be an Antiques Dealer. Each piece comes in both Gold and Silver which is perfect since the classic woman loves to wear her signature metal. These pieces are timeless and will serve her for years to come.
For the "Modern Minimalist" in your life Le Contour will be her go to collection. Clemence Poesy, Diane Keaton, and Jennifer Anniston are their style icons. They may be a small business owner, a nurse, or working for a non-profit. "Le Contour" pieces pair perfectly with her polished, simple outfits. Whenever I think of the minimalist style I think neutral colored basics in captivating shapes. A white top is the perfect back drop for this collection.
Leave a message om the comments if we missed someone, or feel free to reach out to me (Merrie) for specific advice.

Is Your Jewelry Weighing You Down?
Hey there! Today, I want to talk about the many differences between wearing heavy vs. lightweight jewelry.

When I was in my 20s and 30s, I never thought about how heavy my jewelry was. I used to go to the mall, buy what I liked and wear it all day. When I got home, I couldn’t wait to take everything off: jewelry, shoes, makeup. I’d put on socks and yoga pants, and then I could relax. It felt like a ton of weight had been lifted off my shoulders, and I started to notice the pains from the day melting away.
There’s a saying, “pain is beauty, and beauty is pain,” but I don’t agree with it at all. I’ve always believed a woman is most beautiful when she is comfortable. So, now I’ve created a line of jewelry that feels weightless all day long.
Heavy jewelry has too many negatives and causes a lot of problems for the person wearing it. One example: heavy earrings can cause headaches. They can also ear through your earlobes. I meet so many women who’ve torn through their ear lobes, even as young as twenty! Imagine the kind of damage it can do to a person who has been wearing them even later in their life.
So be kind to yourself and lighten up with some lightweight jewelry! Here are a few of my favorites:
Necklace Layering Made Easy: New L'Or Collection

Are you tired of trying to layer necklaces only to find out that they aren't the right lengths? Or maybe you love the layered look, but don't know how to create it.
No problem! The L'Or collection does the work for you by creating designs that were made to layer. Each is the right length and design to add interest, but can also be worn alone for maximum versatility. Grab two, grab three or grab all depending on the look you want
This collection captures and was inspired by the casual elegance that American fashion is famous for. Think: rich golds in a soft, matte finish that impart a flattering, warm glow to all skin tones and designs you'll love to wear for work or play.
P.S. As always, my collections are small batch and limited, so the "L'Or" collection only has 5 pieces of each style in stock. They’re expected to sell out quick, so grab your layered look today!

Air Plants for the Win
Hi!
If you are a plant lover but somehow always kill your plants, air plants are an excellent option. (Trust me, they were my first plants.) They are easy to take care of and require no soil to grow. Originating from the Southern U.S., Asia, and South America, they only need to be watered once a week and have bright light without being in direct sunlight.
If that’s not enough to convince you, check out how many beautiful ways there are to display them. One of my favorite options is with my “Botanical Arts” Collection. It’s a series of minimalist wall art that can also hold your air plants. Each piece is designed with a minimalist touch to highlight the beauty of your air plants.

Can I get a little personal?

When I was a little girl in Poland…(Oops, wait, that’s Seinfeld.) Ok, my story actually takes place in a suburb of Atlanta. I’ve always loved fashion and accessories, but I’ve always had extremely sensitive skin. I remember the second after my ears healed from being pierced. I removed the hypoallergenic studs, grabbed a pair of earrings that I had probably bought for $5 at Claire’s, and went on my way.

(I think this picture is from the first night I wore my new earrings. You can see that I've already taken them off. Haha!)
You can guess what happened next…the oozing and pain the next day. The denial that it wasn’t the earrings and just an infection. “I can wear any earrings I want!” I reassured myself as I furiously scrubbed the new earrings with alcohol. I just needed to let my ears heal and then start over.
Well, my body never “got over” the cheap earrings. I spent my teenage years pawing over the one rack at my local department store that sold hypo-allergenic jewelry. Unfortunately, this brand only sold designs that the Queen of England would have loved. At 14 years old I just didn’t have any place in my wardrobe for diamanté encrusted pearl earrings. (eye roll)
Why were there no cool, modern looking, affordable hypoallergenic brands??? Designs that you could wear everyday with your jeans or to work? To brunch or a night out with your friends?
Now, You might be saying “Great story, Merrie, but what’s your point?” My point is, I bet you’ve also had experiences like this one.
Many of you struggle with allergies to metals, but still want fashionable jewelry at a reasonable price.
- You're tired of settling for a pair of earrings that you “sort-of” like, just because they are hypoallergenic.
- You don't want to spend hundreds of dollars for a pair of earrings.
- You're tired of not knowing what your jewelry is made of and just having to hope that it's hypoallergenic.

(Hypoallergenic, Nickel free hooks used in all designs.)
This is why when I started creating my own jewelry, I knew that I would only use hypoallergenic hooks & chains. I would offer stainless steel options and clip-on options so that EVERYONE COULD WEAR THEM!
I didn’t want anyone to pass by my booth, fall in love with a pair of earrings and not be able to wear them because of something that I could fix. (As those of you who've shopped with me in person know, I can usually swap out a hook while you're at a festival, so you can take your treasure home with you.)
That’s why I offer many different styles of earrings and am happy to do customizations. I want you to find something that you love!

(Tarnish Resistant, Hypoallergenic, Nickel free chains used in all designs.)
Stay Beautiful and Healthy,
Merrie

Two Looks for Fall - Le Cercle Collection

A woman is most beautiful when she is happy and comfortable...
I’ve always loved simplicity in fashion, especially for work. I worked in I.T. in corporate America for most of my adult life, which meant long hours. Plus, it lent itself to a certain “no-nonsense” vibe when it came to clothes. However, I loved to shop and loved fashion in general. I wanted my clothing to look great, feel great, be reasonably priced, and I wanted it to go with most things already in my wardrobe. This meant that when I found something I loved, I bought it in every color possible. :) Yes, if I loved the shoes in brown, then I would love them in black. If the cardigan came in purple, fuchsia, apple green, royal blue, white and black – great, then I’d buy them all!

It didn’t hurt that I worked with a lot of men who, to be honest, felt the same way about their wardrobe, “I’ll buy these pants in tan, blue and black. Then I’ll get this collared shirt in white, blue, and all the stripe patterns. Voila!" As long as I don’t gain or lose any weight for the next 40 years, I won’t have to spend a penny on work clothes until I die! I knew I was a genius!”

This went on for about 10 years, me in bootcut trousers and button-up shirts. Or me in A-line skirts with twinsets. For jewelry, I wore a tiny pair of titanium studs every day – that was it! (For the weekends, I would take out the studs and wear actual earrings and necklaces,)

Then one day something amazing happened, when I was feeling incredibly comfortable with my routine, my niece came to stay with me one summer. One day I casually joked that “Ha, I pretty much look the same every day at work, don’t I?” She didn’t laugh back. (That's when she lit the fire.) Then, I realized that perhaps I’d become a bit boring and could step up my game. I wasn’t the new girl on the block anymore, so I could relax a bit and let my personality shine through. When she offered to be my personal shopper, I reiterated that I didn’t want to spend a lot of time in the morning creating outfits (I still wanted a mix-n-match wardrobe), so we decided to add accessories to individualize my outfits.
I’ve always loved minimalist designs. Luckily minimalist jewelry gives off a sophisticated vibe, so wearing it to work allowed me to feel classy yet still represented who I was. So I started buying a lot of that style of jewelry. We added some medium-sized earrings and necklaces in simple shapes that could be worn with everything. Then I began to view my outfits as more than just uniforms. I knew they represented me, and I felt better in them!
I know that you struggle with time because you're juggling your career, kids, weekend, etc. (We all do.) You want to look and feel fabulous in your clothes, but not at the expense of having to spend a lot of time or effort.
Perhaps you are drawn to Oh, So Fitting because:
- You have access to simple, minimalist designs that are easy to style with your wardrobe.
- You can grab a wide variety of styles and get them customized so you can find the perfect piece to express yourself.
- All pieces are created with lightweight materials, so you know that you can put your pieces on and forget about them during the day.
A woman is most beautiful when she is happy and comfortable. Let Oh, So Fitting accessorize your inner beauty.

The Style Spotlight: Meet Diva N'kenge
So, you know how you've always wanted to know what I would do for a living if neither money nor talent was a requirement?
No, you don't remember asking?
Well, let me tell you anyway: I've always wanted to sing in broadway musicals! They wouldn't even need to pay me!
Now, I've had the pleasure of partnering with (and living vicariously through) Diva Nkenge: a beautiful Style Influencer and Chanteuse.
I can't beat her sass or singing talents, but I can imagine myself on stage through her IG feed. (Seriously, you must visit her blog for a large dose of fabulousness!) You can catch her in upcoming performances such as "The Legacy Of Dorothy Dandridge" and the revival of "Caroline, or Change".

She prefers statement pieces that show up on stage, so she's chosen a lot of my enamel work. She's rocking my Gold and Black Geometric Gift Set above and my Filigree Leaf Earrings below.
Much Love Ms. N'Kenge! Dorothy Dandrige would be proud.

Hi There,
I'd like to introduce another lovely influencer: Mindy Parisi! She's the popular influencer and an owner of the Finding Silver Linings blog where she shares recipes, DIY projects, fashion and beauty tips. Big highlights of her career include being featured in many of the popular magazines and recognized by Food and Wine magazine for her famous spiked eggnog pudding shot recipe. You can catch her wearing my Matte Champagne Threader Earrings for a chic and casual look. She likes the versatility of these delicate and lightweight earrings because she can combine them with both sweaters and more elegant pieces.
Stylista Spotlight: Have you met Sarah Burke?

Hi!
Famous for her positive energy, Sarah Eika Burke flaunts her every move when she dances. She is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher in NYC and has been featured in PeopleStyle, The Guardian, and Alice Magazine. Not to mention the fact that she's also a dancer in several videos for musical artists. Whew! As if that wasn't enough, she's also currently a choreographer for VR game FitXR on Oculus & PlaystationVR. (See her moves here.) Wow!
It seems that being a mother of one doesn’t slow her down, especially when I see her rocking her casual-glam style so effortlessly. I loved that she paired my starburst hoop earrings with a soft, flowy top. If you'd like to try her FitRX dance classes (and they look like so much fun!) you can find her schedule here.
